Spinal Decompression

What is spinal compression?

Spinal compression is pressure on the discs that keep your vertebrae separate and provide room for nerves to emerge from the spinal cord. It can occur anywhere along your cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine - from your neck down to your lower back.

It can be the result of an injury during high-impact sport, chronic degeneration, or even simply moving in the wrong way, causing a slipped disc.

You may experience debilitating back pain as a result of bulging or herniated discs along with sciatic pain, which is when pain can shoot down the sciatic nerves into the lower back, buttocks, or legs.

Dr. David Richardson and Dr. Daniel Fowler are the chiropractors at Crimson Chiropractic in Tuscaloosa, AL, and have many years of experience treating spinal compression conditions and injuries, along with a wide range of other concerns. If you have any questions or would like to book a consultation, contact the team at 205-345-2009.

Treating spinal compression

In the past, the only way to treat spinal compression was through surgical means.

Our highly-successful advanced technology allows us to relieve your spinal pain without surgery! This technology combines a machine with a precise computer program for a treatment called spinal decompression.

Dr. Richardson and Dr. Fowler create custom treatment plans for their patients that decompress the spine and gently pull the herniated or bulging material back into the disc.

The computer program gently rotates and stretches the spine, resulting in the vertebrae becoming less compressed. This can clear up back pain and also relieve the pressure on any affected nerves.

Spinal decompression sessions last around 20 minutes and with a few sessions a week, patients are often finished with treatment within eight weeks.
